Gloria Carter Young

We will miss her so much. My grandma was an amazing example to me and she lived a full life. She always had a smile on her face and I will always remember all the times that we played Skip-O and spoons. Now she is with my father in a better place.

We Love You!!

Early in the morning on February 20, 2009, Gloria Carter Young slipped from this mortal life into immortality. She was born in Nephi, Utah, on March 25, 1925, to Dell Ray Carter and Thea Lavinia Bowers Carter. Gloria was raised in Nephi in a humble, frame building that had been moved there from a small town in the Tintic Mining District. During the Great Depression, she enjoyed the experience of living in a boxcar with her parents and sisters while the train traveled from stop to stop along the line and her father did necessary plumbing repairs on buildings owned by the Union Pacific. The family moved to Provo in 1942.

Gloria received her public education in Nephi, Richfield, and Provo where she graduated from high school in 1943. She had the unique experience of serving as Queen of the Gold and Green Ball Twice, once in Richfield and once in Provo where she met Lawrence J. Young at the dance. They were married September 10, 1945, in the Manti Temple and spent their 63 years of married life in Provo. A Faithful member of the LDS Church, Gloria served in various leadership positions in all of its auxiliaries, and she especially enjoyed serving in the Provo Temple for 18 years.

Gloria actively participated in her children's lives by supporting their efforts and celebrating their accomplishments. She possessed a sincere love for her family and friends and was loved by them in return. Gloria was an accomplished homemaker, cook, and seamstress. After her children were raised, she discovered new talents. Her painted ceramic dolls and china plates won awards and now decorate the homes of her family and close friends.

Many activities enriched Gloria's life. Lasting friendships were made during the 15 years she worked at Sprouse-Reitz in Provo. She traveled with her family and friends to destinations around the world. She and Lawrence enjoyed participating with the Dancing Friends, attending plays, and watching BYU ball games. Gloria was a charter member of the Tonga Le club and a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Lawrence, two children, Dell Lawrence (Vicki) Young, Pleasant Grove; Becky (Scott) Ward, Provo; a sister, Joyce (Keith) Diamond, Provo; a brother, D. Robert (Lyndia) Carter, Springville; 15 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James Thomas (Mary Ann) Young, and one sister, Pauline (Glade) Kuhni.

Family members would like to thank Dora and Candy (Alpha Omega Hospice), many thoughtful friends and neighbors, and the caring couples who have lived with them the last several years, all of whom have freely given their love and many acts of heartfelt care.

Even though she had struggled for so long, it is still hard to let them go. She sounded like such a neat lady. Sorry that you guys have to go through this again, sometimes life isn't fair! My thoughts and prayers are with your fam! Love you guys

Oh and one last thing we had a lot of fun with you guys over Valentines Weekend. I know it was kind of crazy, but we had fun just hanging out as couples with you two. I wish we could do it more often.
