On The Road... But Never Again!!!

We just got back from Sunny St. George. Although our time there was wonderful, the drive home was nothing short of nightmarish. So much for the theory that cars are suppose to lull a baby to sleep. Jocey HATES HATES her car seat and being in the car. It took us 6 hours to get from St. George to Herriman (it ususally takes 4.) Jocey never slept more than a half hour stretch and her scream sessions lasted up to nearly an hour at a time. She just wouldn't give up. Didn't want her binkie, it didn't help when we pulled over and I nursed her. She just didn't want to be in her car seat! Boston sat back watching his DVD's with his hands over his ears. Then he started putting his fingers in his ears and then I watched him try to fold his ears to try and block out the sound! He was very very good. He never cried. The only problem with Boston was the fact that he gets very very very excited these days about everything. Every time a cat, or a dog, or a fish... etc etc etc would come on his screen he would squeal with excitement and this would usually conincide with Jocelyn just about to dose off as I forced her to take the passy. Then "little miss jumpy!" would startle awake and the scream fest would begin again. If that wasn't good enough we hit bumper to bumper construction delays through Spanish Fork. Bottom line, we are not traveling anywhere over about 20 miles until she decides to get over the colic and accept the fact that she can't be held 24/7. Have I ever mentioned we are only having 2 children? I am serious. Dead serious.
On to better things. Jocey wasn't quite as bad on the way down, Boston only had a ten minute cat nap in the car.. but both were in pretty good spirits when we arrived. We made a quick pit stop at my brother Josh's place in Cedar. He hasn't changed a bit and his house very appropriately reeks of insense! (Love you Josh.) He also got to see Jocey for the 1st time which was great. We headed straight to Jumpin Jacks with Aunt Hayley, Uncle Shawn, and cousin Jack as soon as we got to St. George and we bounced until we were exhausted. Hayley was kind enough to hold Jocelyn the whole time so I could play with Boston and we had so so so much fun. I love my little guy and really treasure one on one time like that with him these days. (Thanks Hay!) after the bounce houses we ventured back to my Mom's for an oh so yummy dinner and the boys began their never ending hunt for the CAT!!! Both Boston and Jack LOVE Tiny, who is the cat I abandoned at my Mom's when I got married. They would run around with huge smiles on their faces saying CAT.. CAT.. and looking under the cars and under the garage. When they would spot him they would get so so excited and their excitement would scare the CAT away again. My Mom kept telling Boston he needed to be quiet so as not to scare the CAT.. but he just couldn't help it, especially as it would "NEOW" as he would say.
Saturday was jam packed. Boston went with my Dad in the morning to feed the horses and cows then we went with cousin Jack to feed the ducks, which was almost as fun as chasing the CAT. (I think Boston is passionate about any word he can say.) He did learn two new words over the weekend by the way. He can now say "bike" and "dog".
Saturday also brought two old friends from my elementary days. Kim "Hobbs" Bess and Ammie "Brown" Hammond. They hadn't changed a bit and Kim has a baby girl just 12 days younger than Jocelyn and Ammie has two beautiful girls herself, so Boston was a little outnumbered! It was so nice to reminice with them and I hope we can stay in touch.
That evening we went to the Round up Days Parade and Boston and Jack loved catching candy. Then aunt Hayley through a CARS party!! She bought both boys lightening McQueen jammies and layed out a big fluffy down comforter and tossed comfy pillows around. The boys ate popcorn and drank there "Nilk" as Boston says. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. They watched the show as if they had never seen it before. They sat there for half the show before even getting restless. We let the boys stay up an hour past there bedtimes, and I hope it's the beginning of a great friendship between Boston and Jack.
JT arrived on Sunday from a quick trip to California and I'm so glad he got a break and was able to go golfing and play tennis with his twin. He is such a great husband and daddy and really needed the break.
Thanks Mom and Dad and Hayley and Shawn for another wonderful weekend!

Oh I remember going to Cali when JO was 3 months old. I had to pump most the way and feed her with a bottle, but we Jim and I were so tired from staying up too late the day before that we had to stop at a rest stop and sleep between to semis. I am sorry you had a bad drive home. I hate that ugly drive from Nephi to Beaver! Seem never ending huh?
Just a thought, my sis in-law take the motor out of her pump and wraps it in a blanket and puts in near her baby boys ear. The vibration seems to help calm him on the drives.
I am off work on Mondays and Jo is off school so if you want to set up a playdate Monday would have to be it, or it would be without JO because she goes to school at 12:30 Tue-Fri. Nights are good too!

Oh man! Sounds like you are going to tell your fam in St. George that if they want to see you, they are going to have to come to your house!! :) There is nothing wrong with having 2 kiddos!

I so remember those long drives with babies. Only one of my kids has liked the car the other two have hated every minute of it. It does get better though!!!

Your kids are too cute for you to stop at two!!! Some days I feel the same, it's easy when you have one of each and the number 3 can be so daunting! But then I see Mandy's cute belly and think I can do it.
